Boppin' Around (The Netherlands/Holland):

“It's always fun to listen to new music from across the big pond, especially when this music stands out as special. Boppin' Around had as a goal to try to create a familiarity in Europe with music from the States and perhaps a guide to what CDs to buy. They may well have been played in Europe, but that was for the personnel on military bases.

“Andrea Dagmar Brown is the vocalist and this is a woman with presence…a powerful presence. With her deep, strong voice, she knows how to create her very own style. In addition, although she often appears in a beautiful dress, she is emancipated when 'My Gal Is Red Hot' becomes 'My Guy Is Red Hot' keeping the rest of the lyrics intact. The title track, 'A Little Bit of Love,' rocks a whole lotta bit more; Andrea finishes off the song 'Don't Stop' with an orgasm. And that was more or less expected: Wanda Jackson is rediscovered. But on 'Let's Have a Party' here she takes the bull by the horns, brings the beat to mid-tempo, and gives it her own sound. Better than the thinly covered 'Stupid Cupid,' which doesn't fit so well with the singer. At least in my opinion. The slow songs are okay, but somewhat resemble well-known songs: 'Evil,' which is similar to 'Fever' is the best example. At first I found that the song 'Lucky Stars' seemed a little modern, but on further examination I came to the conclusion that Buddy Holly could have written this song even if it does sound a little bit more contemporary. In any case, the band (on this record, supplemented with some guest musicians) doesn't fall into the category of authentic vintage style. Their sound is too contemporary for that. Fortunately, that doesn't mean that they sound too polished. Once in a while, there will be an infusion of energy that results in a mix of acceptable, straight rock'n'roll and a fine individual style. The latter is due mainlly to the singer, the songwriting ability, and the not-always-predictable playing.”
